Hi, I’m Todd.
I’m a user experience designer.
What’s a user experience designer anyhow?
Glad you asked. Everyone who practices this seems to define it differently. I consider myself the user’s advocate, helping ensure products are more pleasurable for them to use. “Pleasurable” could mean more efficient, easier to learn, intuitive to navigate, more accessible or simply more fun. It all depends on the business objective.
Your site’s kind of ugly/basic/generic, no?
Perhaps. Whizzy, rich design was not my intent. I wanted to create a site that met the following criteria:
- Accessible: the site uses semantic html as well as some affordances to disabled users like WAI-ARIA landmarks.
- Readable: the font is disarmingly large. I wanted this to be easy for someone to read on a small laptop from two feet away.
- Simple: I wanted the design to be nearly invisible and not compete with the work or content.
